The FCDHV Reveals Its Powerful 2026 Official Selection
Vieques, Puerto Rico — At a historic moment for Caribbean culture and memory, the Vieques Human Rights Film Festival announces its 2026 Official Selection, which will take place from March 20 to 22, 2026, in multiple emblematic spaces in Vieques, including outdoor venues, under the curatorial theme “Memories of Water.”
This year, the festival presents more than 33 productions from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and other countries. The program includes feature films, short films, documentaries, fiction, experimental pieces, music videos, and student works, creating a cinematic journey that invites reflection on water as memory, territory, and future.
Among the featured works in the selection is the Puerto Rican feature film *Esta Isla* (This Island), by Lorraine Jones and Christian Carretero, which has already won awards at international festivals. The short documentary *Agricultores del Mar* (Farmers of the Sea), by filmmaker Juan Carlos Dávila, a piece that follows Vieques fishermen in their work and current reality, will premiere in Puerto Rico as part of the festival.
“Memorias del Agua (Memories of Water) is a call to listen to stories that flow, that resist, and that sustain us. This festival doesn't just screen films: it screens possibilities for a dignified life,” said the Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival team.
An accessible and necessary festival for the Caribbean community
Unlike other cultural events, the Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival is the only one in Puerto Rico whose admission is based on donations, reaffirming its commitment to cultural equity and accessibility. Both the Vieques community and those who travel to the island to enjoy the festival can be part of a diverse, transformative, and impactful cinematic experience.
