FCDHV Brings Sixth-Edition Showcase to Boston

The showcase will feature short and feature-length films, including works exploring histories and experiences of Vieques.

The Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival (Festival de Cine y Derechos Humanos de Vieques, FCDHV) will bring a special two-day film showcase to Boston on October 22 and 23, 2026, at the invitation of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA). Featuring films from the festival's sixth edition, Memorias del agua (Memories of Water), the showcase will take place at La CASA: The Center for Arts, Self-Determination and Activism, IBA's Latino arts, culture, and community center in Boston's South End, bringing stories of environmental justice, community resilience, cultural identity, and human rights from Puerto Rico and across Latin America to Boston audiences.

The film showcase brings together a selection of films and short works exploring the connections between water, territory, communities, and human rights. Through documentary filmmaking, experimental cinema, and diverse audiovisual narratives, the program addresses environmental justice, sovereignty, identity, and the experiences of communities defending their territories and ways of life. The selection includes Farmers of the Sea, Water for Life, Querida Isla Nena, and Dulces Labios, alongside a collection of experimental short films. Each evening will conclude with a community discussion, creating space for audiences to exchange perspectives and connect the stories on screen with the lived experiences and realities of their own communities.

Through arts, culture, education, and civic engagement programming, La CASA serves as a gathering place for Latino communities and a platform for artists, storytellers, and advocates whose work advances dialogue, representation, and community empowerment.

This showcase offers an opportunity to share Puerto Rican and Latin American cinema with Boston audiences and bring people together around the stories, experiences, and perspectives presented on screen. The partnership with IBA and La CASA creates an opportunity for the festival to connect its work in Vieques with Boston audiences and foster dialogue around the issues and experiences reflected in the films. The event will also give audiences an opportunity to learn about the history and mission of the Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival and engage in conversations about the role of cinema in our human rights efforts.
