The FCDHV Arrives in Chicago for a Special Presentation

The Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival (FCDHV), which celebrates its sixth edition this coming year, will hold a special presentation in Chicago on Sunday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schomburg Gallery (2538 W Division St).

The event will feature the screening of audiovisual pieces and a discussion, accompanied by music. This evening seeks to strengthen the connection between Puerto Rico and the diaspora, highlighting the struggles for social justice and the power of film as a tool for cultural transformation.

“The Festival was born in Vieques, a municipality without cinema or theater, the community has reclaimed art as a space for resistance and memory. Coming to Chicago allows us to expand that dialogue and connect with audiences who share our concerns and hopes,” said Diana Ramos Gutiérrez, Festival Director.

The Vieques Human Rights Film Festival has established itself as a platform for addressing pressing issues such as climate justice, demilitarization, the right to remain, and, this year, healing justice. In addition to its annual celebration in Vieques, the Festival offers screenings and educational workshops in schools, organizations, and cultural institutions in Puerto Rico and the diaspora.
